Appalachian Mountain Man

This is my Appalachian mountain man dulcimer. The top, back, sides, and peghead are Brazilian rosewood (the real thing) that I bought in the early '70s before importing it was outlawed. The fretboard is rosewood laminated over spruce. I base my "hourglass" dulcimers on the 1885-90 Thomas dulcimer that resides in the Smithsonian. I chose this design because of its slender, graceful shape. (It sounds sweet, too.) The only differences are in the peghead carving (nearly all dulcimers have scroll-style pegheads), and in the soundholes, which are a variation of the classic upside-down heart.
