Rehearsal Hall

Away from the hustle and bustle of RC1's entertainment areas was our rehearsal hall. The only thing further removed was the football field, just on the other side of it. Every morning, from 8 to noon, we, as the "General's Chorus," rehearsed rousing military songs and seasonal tunes for the once-a-month top-brass dinner shindig at headquarters company, a few miles away. For some, the afternoons were spent working on variety show material. The variety show was one of the main draws at service clubs all over Korea (mostly in the 2d Division area). Others worked in their respective bands. These touring bands were made up of The Travelers (folk-rock), The Ground Floor People (blues and rock), and The Uniques (jazz). I started out in the variety show in a singing group doing "You've Got Your Troubles, I've Got Mine" and "Tobacco Road," then after a few months became the bass player in The Travelers. All of us made up the only full-time entertainment corps in the Army.
