OO (Double O)-style Flattop--Unknown Maker

Several years ago I found this guitar at a vintage guitar show in San José. It was in pieces inside a well-used chipboard case under a counter, nearly out of sight. The same booth had an old jumbo Harmony Sovereign that I wanted, so I made a deal to take the broken guitar off the guy's hands if I bought the Harmony. He let me have both for a very fair price. We both went away happy.

The neck is mahogany, the top spruce, and the sides and back a beautifully figured (but laminated) rosewood. The bridge, an obvious cheap replacement, is stamped metal, fastened with two wood screws through the top into a block of Douglas fir. When I started tinkering with it I immediately noticed that nothing seemed original except for the sides and back. The neck seemed out of place and was attached to the body with a standard dove-tail slot. However, the slot was in a very rough cut piece of pine. (The tail block was finished hardwood--probably a type of mahogany.) All the inlay on the neck and head were crudely done, and most were off center or slightly angled. The binding and center piece on the back were very nice but did not match anything on the front.
